Help Support Lucy After Life Altering Injuries

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Kelly and I’ve created this fundraiser on behalf of my sister, Jennifer, and her family after they were involved in a devastating car accident.

11/2/23 update:

Lucy and her family are adjusting to life outside of the hospital. The family is currently displaced from their home, and will be for the foreseeable future, while they wait for renovations to begin. They are unable to live in their home until accommodations are made to make it accessible. The family greatly appreciates the continued support as they are still not able to work at full capacity; needing to adjust their schedules to accommodate Lucy’s therapy appointments and medical needs. Please see the most recent news story (linked below) for updated information in regards to the legal proceedings of the accident that also significantly impacts the Harris family.

9/5/23 UPDATE FROM JEN (Lucy’s Mom):
Please continue to keep Lucy in your thoughts and prayers. We have much work to do. We will be displaced for months while our home is made accessible, and future surgeries look to be inevitable at this time. Thank you to all those that have reached out and supported us in some capacity, we greatly appreciate it all.Peter, Lucy’s dad, had the opportunity to speak on our family’s behalf to both Channel 7 and 9News. Please see the article links below.

(Previous) UPDATE FROM THE FAMILY:
Lucy continues to heal and begin working at rehabilitation, and as parents, we are learning so much more about her needs to come home. Our home will need several modifications for her to have basic access to everyday tasks. Our stay at the hospital will not be measured in days, but weeks. Also, if you know Lucy, you know how physically active she is, and how important physical activity is to her mental health. Any day of the week, you can catch Lucy playing soccer, riding her bike, swimming for hours, working on beating her time up a rock wall, horseback riding, ice skating, skiing, or kayaking, to name a few. As her parents, we are dedicated to finding ways to help her continue these activities. We will be looking at ways we can preserve this huge part of her identity to maintain her quality of life. This is a huge financial strain, and some of these modifications are required urgently. These funds will go directly to support Lucy’s independence, and our ability to stay with her during her hospital stay. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.

P.S. Lucy picked out a pretty sweet, sporty purple chair today. She can’t wait to beat the neighborhood kids in a race upon discharge!

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP (original post):

On July 15, 2023, Jennifer and her two children were involved in a serious car accident, in which at a complete stop, they were rear-ended by someone going 60 mph. The accident resulted in injuries for both Jennifer and her 10-year-old daughter, Lucy. Fortunately, her son, Calvin, was left unharmed. Jennifer sustained a concussion, as well as a broken wrist, and various cuts and bruises. Lucy’s injuries are devastating, and life-altering. She endured a splenectomy, bleeding in her lungs, a few broken bones and a brain bleed, along with a few other minor internal injuries. While she is recovering well from those injuries and is currently stable, she will never recover from her most severe injury; a severed spinal cord, that has left her paralyzed. Doctors say our sweet, strong, vibrant, kind-hearted, active Lucy will never walk again. Her life will never be the same. A child who loves nothing more than to be on the move; playing soccer, swimming, biking, hiking, climbing, and running around with her friends. All things she will have to learn how to do a bit differently.

As this was an unexpected tragedy, our family needs your help to make this difficult transition into a new way of life as smooth as possible. Please help if you can. In addition to keeping up with everyday expenses (mortgage, utilities, groceries, etc.), medical expenses are quickly accumulating. Peter and Jennifer will need to take an extended amount of time off of work, make significant modifications to their home, purchase a new vehicle capable of transporting their daughter, purchase necessary medical equipment to accommodate her daily needs, and provide around-the-clock care for her. She will require rehabilitation services and therapies, as well as lifelong medical support and care.

Your donation is extremely appreciated and we will be forever grateful for your help during this challenging time. Thank you for your time and support. -Kelly and the Harris Family
