My little guy,Thomas, came into my life after the loss of my sweet Oscar, a Maltese x Lahsa Upso tragically hit by a car in front of me. Thomas is a pure bred Lahsa Upso and the light in my heart. He gives me hugs and I smile each time I see him. I rub his belly every morning and greet him with a ' hello my baby, hows my boy? Did u sleep well? Love my boy'
Thomas came to me at 12 weeks and has just reached 10 years. Happy, healthy and always wags his bushy tail when I talk to him. His favourite hug is me on the toilet and he puts his paws on my knees.
I shall miss that and him licking the water off my legs after my shower, helping me dry off.
I love my baby so much.
I received a call from the 24hr Emergency Vet clinic in Manunda to tell me my Thomas has been admitted because he was mauled by a dog that was not on a leash. When I am at work, Thomas is baby-sat by a lovely older lady who has been dog sitting for 40+ years. Today she took Thomas for his evening walk and the unleashed dog came from behind and attacked him. She herself has been bitten on her arms attempting to free Thomas from the dogs jaws. Thomas sustained 3 deep lacerations, one under his shoulder where it has been torn, on his neck and on his spine, also a broken rib. The worst of his injury is a hernia on his belly that could strangle his intestines. All up, he will need 4 operations and approx 7 days in hospital. The estimated bill is around $10k
I have paid upfront $1500
Of course there are few of us who can afford a bill that was so totally unexpected. Some would say 'put him down' but Thomas has so much life in him. He runs around at the dog park as if he were a puppy. I want my baby back home! It has only been one day and I miss already!
Pet lovers would understand the grief I am feeling.
We are taking the matter to the police as this is a crime.
