Hello!

I have been selected as a state finalist in Miss Maryland USA 2015 pageant. As many of you know, I competed for the Miss Maryland Teen USA title in 2013 and was a semi- finalist by placing in the top 15! Since the pageant in 2013, I have grown tremendously, but I still have the dream of representing the state of Maryland, which is why I am competing for the title again! The pageant will be held over the weekend of October 31- November 2, 2014 in North Bethesda, Maryland. If I do become the titleholder of Miss Maryland 2015, I will represent the state and compete for the nationally televised title of Miss USA 2015 on NBC next summer.

If I am awarded the title of Miss Maryland USA 2015, I would like to dedicate my time, heart, and soul to building self-esteem and inspiring confidence in girls and young women. My goal is to inspire young women and girls to start working towards achieving the dreams and goals that they have set for themselves!

Growing up, I faced challenges that, unfortunately, are not as unique as they should be. For the majority of my childhood, a very young single mom raised me. As hard as it was at times for both of us, I learned at a young age that anything is possible with hard work and dedication. My mom was dedicated and determined to give me a wonderful life and she was determined that I would never have to ‘suffer’ because she was young and unmarried. My mom overcame the struggles that single moms often encounter by working hard and achieving her goal of a degree. She accomplished most of her goals and dreams and now I have a huge amazing, overwhelming loving family surrounding me each day. I look at how far my mother has come, how much she has accomplished, and I want other young women and girls to have the confidence and determination to be the best that they can be. As Miss Maryland, I would be involved in women’s shelters for both young women and babies. I would like to work with St. Ann’s Center for Children, Youth and Families by raising donations and holding drives for every day necessities that a woman my need to care for herself and her child.

My next goal as Miss Maryland is to become a mentor for other young women and girls, particularly those with a multi-racial background. I have a multi-racial back ground comprised of Scottish, African American, Italian, and Puerto Rican heritages. Many people of multi-racial heritages struggle to determine where they “belong”. Because my mother raised me to be confident and to love myself, I know that having multiple ethnicities is beautiful and something to be proud of. I want to help other girls who think of themselves as different to learn to love and cherish who they are. I believe that with my diverse heritage and my life experiences, I can be someone to whom girls can easily relate.

As Miss Maryland, I would also like to dedicate my time to the organization Girls Empowerment Mission/ GEM. I would like to provide mentoring and support to at-risk teenage girls.  I think teenage girls need a soft place to land and a nonjudgemental ear to listen to their issues.

Lastly, I would fulfill my dream of working with Girls INC. Girls INC is a non-profit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. The mission of Girls INC is to empower girls to be self -sufficient, responsible, and confident women by delivering research- based, age appropriate, after school programs.

As a titleholder, I also hope I will be able to continue writing in my blog “Simple Sweet & Stylish,” which is an advice blog for young women on fashion, beauty, and lifestyle. I would also like to continue my work with Charity’s Closet, which is a women’s clothing donation center.

If I am crowned Miss Maryland, I will receive a scholarship of $45,600 to Lindenwood University. I will also receive a scholarship to the New York Film Academy!

As a part of my responsibility as a contestant, I am required to raise money for my pageant expenses including a three day hotel stay, meals, production and advertising costs, and other pageant expenses. All people who donate will be included on an advertisement located in the Miss Maryland USA pageant program book. These ads will be seen by a wide array of people from across the state of Maryland and beyond, which is why this is a wonderful opportunity to advertise a business! Donations will also be considered a taxable write off. If you choose to donate, make sure you put the name/ business name that you would like included on an ad in the description.

I treasure each and every person who donates and I will be sure to represent all of you to the best of my ability at the Miss Maryland USA Pageant this fall!! All extra donations will go to the top women’s charities that I will be working with (GEM Maryland, St. Ann’s, Girls INC, Dress for Success, and Charity’s Closet.)

Thank you for taking the time to read about my dream! You all are so special to me and I can’t wait to rock it this fall on the MISS MARYLAND USA stage!
