Bioness L300 for Nathan

Nathan has a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy which is a disorder that effects movement, muscle tone, and motor skills. Nathan’s entire right side is affected. He is 12 years old and has worn a leg brace almost his entire life. He even has a night brace to sleep in that keeps his muscles stretched. Nine months ago, we learned about a device called the Bioness L300 https://l300go.com/ . This device would greatly improve Nathans quality of life. We have since been fighting with insurance to get it approved with no such luck. They have denied it saying it is an investigational device. We have seen Nathan use this and it works! The physical therapist has collected data to show how it significantly improves his speed, safety, and endurance. Nathan must work hard to keep up with his peers while walking or playing sports.  A day of hiking, walking at the zoo, or an amusement park can often be too much for him. This device corrects his foot drop and has proven to help him walk faster and farther. It also could preserve and/or increase his leg muscle strength. Nathan loved the way the L300 felt when he tried it on. It is lighter and more comfortable than the brace he wears, and he could walk barefoot! His smile and excitement lit up the room and he was ready to take it home that day. We also currently have to special order shoes to fit over Nathans braces that are expensive and limited in choice. With the L300 he would not be so limited in the shoes he can wear.  For so many reasons the Bioness L300 would have a great impact on Nathans quality of life. We put money aside every year to cover the costs of his braces and therapy and we have some money to apply towards this device and 6 months of electrodes. It is a very expensive purchase and we will continue to have the costs of electrodes.   Meeting our donation goal will help us to cover a large portion of the cost of the device that Nathan will be able to wear for many more years.
