An Eagle Scout at the age of 13, Bill Bradbury took the Boy Scout Oath, Law and Motto to heart. Every day, he tried to do good, help others and serve his community. He was the most trustworthy and loyal friend and could make a room roar with laughter. He would drop everything to help a stranger in need. Growing up on a cattle ranch outside Susanville, CA taught him to enjoy nature and the value of hard work.
His career in EMS started with volunteering in high school for the local fire department in Deerfield, MA. In college, he spent his summers fighting fire for CA Dept of Forestry. Wanting to it a career, he then studied to become an EMT and worked 3 years for REMSA in Reno, NV. He was elated! He was finally really getting to help people. After the birth of his second child, his father (a Judge) encouraged him to try his hand in the legal profession. After 4 short years of practice, which he hated, he wanted to go back to what made him truly happy…EMS. He re-earned his EMT license, and immediately knew he was back on the right path. He earned his Paramedic License in March of 2017 (at the age of 36!) and was eager to start saving lives again. At the same time he was going through training, he was hired for the Marin Council BSA as the Ranger at Camp Tamarancho, where Bill, his wife and two children were finally “at home”. Enthusiastically, he also hired on with AMR in San Mateo County eager to combine his two loves, Scouting and helping others.
His goal for the Camp was to repair the long, serpentine-like stretch of dirt road up to camp so that more scouts would be able to enjoy such a beautiful place. It was dangerous work that no one wanted to do, so Bill took it upon himself to make sure it got done. As he was spreading the gravel, the ground he was working on gave way and the Grading tractor he was operating tumbled 250 feet down into a ravine. He was critically injured. Bill finally got to fly in a REACH helicopter, but not the way he had hoped. He succumbed to his injuries in less than 4 hours. As he had requested, his tissues were donated, so that he could continue to help others.
He was an amazing devoted loving husband and father. Funny, smart and a great friend to all that knew him. We are asking for donations to help pay off the rest of his student loan debt with any extra going into a trust to support his two autistic children, now ages 13 and 14. He leaves behind his wife, Erika, and children Darren and Lindsey.
