Bill Sullivan’s COVID Battle

Diagnosed with COVID 19 in April, Bill suffered with a severe respiratory infection and tachycardia (rapidly beating heart). While he didn’t get hospitalized there were numerous visits to the doctor and hospital.  In many people this virus attacks the blood vessels and in Bill’s case it hit the blood vessels in the heart. So after some more costly tests the medical team at Loyola has determined Bill needs to have heart surgery to fix this.  Bill is scheduled for coronary artery bypass surgery on July 20th. As some of you may know this is a serious surgery and has a lengthy recovery time compared to other cases requiring determination, fortitude, and proper rest and financial stress sure doesn’t help.

In Bill’s own words, “I’m supposed to be the one helping others. I spent three decades in the nonprofit sector. I know people, when they come together, can move mountains. I just never thought it would be for me...When I began this journey with Covid, I thought I’d be back to work in two weeks.  My employer told me to file for unemployment.  I never imagined in April that I would be out of work until October. “

Bill has worked for the Gift of Hope, Catholic Charities, Lake Katherine Nature Center and EMWQ, Retirees’, Widows and Children’s Assistance Fund, always in service to others.  He is a member of St. Barnabas’ Parish where his dad served as a deacon until his death last year.  He is a graduate of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University.  

I am Bill’s mom’s cousin and offered to set up this Go Fund Me page to help him get through the next 4+ months with a little less stress.  Recovering from COVID and heart surgery are stressful enough without additional financial worries.  Bill’s unemployment benefits will be reduced significantly at the end of the month.
