Welcome to Courtnay's Bike Campaign!
Courtnay's mother, Tracy, describes Courtnay as a typical teenager: strong-willed, opinionated, and boy crazy! However, Courtnay is far from your average fifteen-year-old girl. Courtnay was born with several congenital abnormalities including a heart defect (atrial septal defect), Grade IV kidney reflex, congenital scolisis, and a colaboma with retinal detachment leaving her blind in her right eye. To date, Courtnay has endured approximately 20 surgeries, including a spinal fusion at the age of 11.
Tracy is a friend and co-worker of mine. For the last 15 years, she has been a stay-at-home mother caring for and raising Courtnay and her 8-year old brother Jackson. This past year Tracy decided to go back to school to further her education and earned an Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting. She is now single working mother.
Courtnay's brother Jackson loves to ride his bike. Tracy would love for Courtnay to be able to ride a bike as well and hopes that the three of them can one day embark on bike-riding adventures together as a family. Which brings us to the reason for this page: raising funds to purchase a tandem bike for Courtnay.
The Mission Piggyback Bike Trailer (http://www.bikemania.biz/mission-piggyback-mk2-folding-children-s-special-needs-bike-trailer-with-20-wheels.html) is a custom-made trailer for children with special needs. This bike will give Courtnay the opportunity to participate in bike rides, while providing Tracy the peace of mind having her safe and connected. Given Courtnay's poor muscle tone and fused spine, she requires several unique attachments to make her bike functional and safe. The cost of the bike (including shipping, assembly, and cost of this platform :) is $1,538.00.
