Bighetti Education Fund

Donation protected
My name is Garth Tyler and I’ve started this campaign on behalf of my friend Marcelo Bighetti, who is from Brazil. Marcelo and his family are trying to continue their education and better their lives by coming to the United States, specifically Brigham Young University (BYU), but they need the funds to do so.  In my case, scholarships, grants, and student loans helped me achieve my goals.  Many of you in the US have had the same support whether, it be from family, friends, scholarships, grants, fellowships, and loans.  When Marcelo came to me with his desires to come to the USA, to go to school, and achieve the life he could not have in Brazil, I knew that I needed to help. While I’ve helped him some financially and through tutoring, etc., unfortunately, I personally do not have the finances to sustain Marcelo and his family while they accomplish this goal.  I have asked Marcelo to introduce his family’s desires to you:

Hello, my name is Marcelo Bighetti.  I’m from Brazil and I was accepted to attend Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah for January 2018 Winter Semester.  I am pursuing an academic career as a teacher/professor.  Brigham Young University provides opportunities for people around the world to improve their education to better take care of their families and improve society where they live.  I’m already an English teacher here in Brazil, the country that I love, and am currently teaching mathematics too.

The challenge of getting to Provo, Utah in the United States is the requirement that the US Government has (in order to grant a visa) of verifying the funds to ensure one can complete the desired outcome. These funds must be verified before a visa is granted. As a family, we have been working diligently on this goal (to study at BYU) for several years now.  Many great friends have helped counsel and assist us, to get us to this point, and I thank them for their help.

I am asking my many great friends and family (and others) to see if they would be able to assist in any way they can.  Contributions of $5, $10, or $20 or any other denomination go a long way in helping us meet this goal.  I ask everyone that read this to consider sharing it with others, as the more read it, the more the little contributions would allow us to meet our goal.

With a student visa, I’m allowed to work only 20 hours a week on campus.  To reduce the cost to study abroad, we discovered it would be cheaper for my wife and my oldest daughter to go to the USA as students to BYU’s English Language Center (ELC).  This would allow them both to work 20 hours a week, thus helping reduce the cost needed.  This also gives them the opportunity to gain an education to further improve their lives, as well.  Likewise, this would provide a great opportunity for my younger children to gain a higher level of education in the USA.

I know I will be an excellent student while at BYU. I’ve taken online courses through BYU Idaho’s Pathway Program—designed to give students the confidence and skills needed to succeed in college.  Pathway is an educational opportunity that combines online courses with local gatherings.  Students earn college credit that is eligible for transfer to BYU-Idaho and other universities. The program took one year (three semesters) and I completed it in Winter 2016 getting an “A” grade for all the subjects.

Thank you once again for your consideration.  If you wouldn’t mind contributing and passing this link on to your family and friends, I would greatly appreciate it.  All of you have been so kind and generous and I appreciate your friendship.
