Big Al's Battle

First of all I would like to say thank you for taking the time to open this and read it.

My name is Marc and I am setting up this go fund me for my dad, Alan Walker.
My dad was unfortunately diagnosed with squamous cell tongue, throat and neck cancer on the 2nd November this year. It really has hit my family hard as I'm sure most people would understand.
My dad is a young 53 year old and has worked hard his whole life; he doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, he eats well and is fit so this just shows you how unfair and unpredictable cancer really is.
I am one of five children who are all extremely close to our mum and dad and would see them as friends as well as our parents.
My sister's have blessed my mum and dad with 2 beautiful granddaughters this year and me and my partner Holly and bringing another little girl into the family in early January.

We are all grown up and lead our own lives now and this should be the time for my parents to relax and enjoy their time but due to this terrible diagnosis that won't be the case.
My dad starts his gruelling treatment in the next few weeks starting with immediate chemotherapy followed by 30 sessions of radiotherapy, surgery and other associated procedures.

As they live in Oban it's a long way from the Cancer Centre in Glasgow so there will be considerable costs consisting of travel, accommodation and other day to day expenses. The biggest of which has  been the loss of two incomes as my mum will be caring for my dad full time for the foreseeable future.

No one should have to worry about money when going through this awful situation but I think it's the one thing that is putting so much pressure on my dad. So maybe between us we can make it one less thing he has to worry about so he can fully focus on the treatment ahead.

I have always seen my dad as a strong man, both physically and mentally, so for me to see him go through this is possibly the hardest thing I have ever done. I don't know how he can still joke around and put everyone at ease, but I guess that just shows my dad's strong character.

This horrible illness and taken hold of my dad and his family but I believe with the love and support of our Mum and his children he will kick cancers arse!!

He is a VW enthusiast and he loves his car so hopefully with everyones help and support we will have him back in his beloved mk2 Golf and celebrating a victory with his family.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and to anyone who does donate I really do thank you with all of my heart.

Marc.
