Biblioteca Mao is een samenwerking tussen een Dominicaans ngo en een Belgische vzw. Het doel is om kinderen en jongeren in de Dominicaanse Republiek toegang te geven tot boeken en leesplezier.
Het project plant om in september 2022 een vaste bibliotheek te openen in Valverde Mao, een stadje in het noordoosten van het land. De bibliotheek organiseert voorleesmomenten, bijscholingen voor leerkrachten en heeft een ruim aanbod aan Spaanstalige en Engelstalige boeken voor 3-18 jarigen.
De kinderen en jongeren in de dorpjes in de provincie Valverde en Monte Cristi hebben amper of geen toegang tot boeken. Daarom wil Biblioteca Mao naast de vaste bibliotheek ook een bibliotheekbus aankopen om de boeken naar de mensen te brengen. Stad Antwerpen verkoop via een online veiling een van haar bibbussen. Met jouw hulp willen we de bus aankopen.
Waarom boeken en een bus verschepen vanuit Europa naar de Dominicaanse Republiek? Boeken en transportmiddelen die in de Dominicaanse Republiek te verkrijgen zijn, worden sowieso geïmporteerd uit Europa of de USA. Via contacten met een bananenexportbedrijf, de ambassade en het ministerie van onderwijs in de Dominicaanse Republiek kunnen we vrij goedkoop en taksvrij importeren.
Wat als we niet genoeg inzamelen voor de aankoop van de bus? De donaties gaan in de geval naar het bibliotheekproject in de stad Valverde Mao voor de uitvoering van verbouwingswerken, de aankoop van boekenkasten en materialen.

Biblioteca Mao is a collaboration between a Dominican and a Belgian non-profit organisation. Our aim is to give children and young people in the Dominican Republic access to books and the love for literature.
The project plans to open a permanent library in September 2022 in Valverde Mao, a town in the northeast of the country. The library organises storytelling moments, courses for teachers and has a wide range of Spanish and English books for 3-18 year olds.
The children and young people in the villages in the province of Valverde and Monte Cristi have little or no access to books. That is why, in addition to the permanent library, Biblioteca Mao also wants to purchase a library bus to bring the books to the people. The City of Antwerp is selling one of its library buses through an online auction . With your help we want to buy the bus.
Why book and ship a bus from Europe to the Dominican Republic? Books and means of transport available in the Dominican Republic are in any case imported from Europe or the USA. Through contacts with a banana export company, the embassy and the ministry of education in the Dominican Republic, we can import fairly cheaply and tax free.
What if we don't collect enough to buy the bus? The donations will go to the library project in the city of Valverde Mao for the execution of renovation works, the purchase of bookcases and materials.

Biblioteca Mao es una colaboración entre una organización sin fines de lucro dominicana y belga. El objetivo es que los niños y jóvenes de República Dominicana tengan acceso a los libros y disfruten de la lectura.
El proyecto quiere abrir una biblioteca pública en septiembre de 2022 en Valverde Mao, en el noreste del país. La biblioteca organiza momentos de lectura, cursos para maestros y tiene una amplia gama de libros en español e inglés para niños de 3 a 18 años.
Los niños y jóvenes de los pueblos de la provincia de Valverde y Monte Cristi tienen poco o ningún acceso a los libros. Por eso, además de la biblioteca permanente, la Biblioteca Mao también quiere comprar un autobús biblioteca para llevar los libros a la gente. La ciudad de Amberes en Belgica está vendiendo uno de sus autobuses biblioteca a través de una subasta . Con su ayuda queremos comprar el autobús.
¿Por qué comprar y enviar un autobús desde Europa a la República Dominicana? Los libros y medios de transporte disponibles en la República Dominicana son en todo caso importados de Europa o EE.UU. A través de contactos con una empresa exportadora de banano, la embajada y el ministerio de educación en la República Dominicana, podemos importarlos a un precio bastante bajo y sin pagar impuestos.
¿Qué pasa si no recaudamos lo suficiente para comprar el autobús? En dado caso, las donaciones se destinarán al proyecto de la biblioteca de la ciudad de Valverde Mao para la ejecución de obras de renovación, compra de librerías y materiales.
