The Wahine's of the Washington Canoe Club are going to compete in the Na Wahine O Ke Kai with your help!
History:
The Washington Canoe Club ,located below Georgetown on the Potomac River, was founded in 1904 and has placed athletes on almost every Canoe/Kayak Olympic Team since 1924.
In 1999, the club acquired two Force 5 outrigger canoes, and a new chapter opened at WCC. Beginning paddlers to Olympians were drawn into the outrigger program. The program has rapidly grown and matured and is now recognized as one of the most competitive on the east coast. The club regularly fields crews in East Coast Outrigger Racing Association (ECORA) sanctioned events, and have also competed in the Catalina Crossing, Queen Liliuokalani, Na Wahine O Ke Kai, and Moloka’i Hoe. Since 2002, the WCC has won the ECORA High Points Championship trophy that is awarded each year to the east coast team with the highest standing.
The Wahines:
In June, the WCC women won the New York Outrigger Liberty Challenge and gained sponsorship by Hawaiian Airlines to compete in the Na Wahine O Ke Kai in September.
Hawaiian Airlines is covering the cost of entry and airfare, however that still leaves lodging, boat rentals, on island transport, and other mandatory expenditures for 10 paddlers. The estimated remaining total is $8,000.
We could use your help to make this happen. Please donate to help showcase these amazing WCC athletes at the channel crossing!
