BhubeSki Pride An African Adventure

My rugby journey started in 2008 at my alma mater, Ohio University, where I played for five years before receiving my BA in Sociology, history minor. After graduation I thought my time in rugby was done, or at least regulated to playing at the club level. But the next opportunity in the sport came in the form of a passion I had thought I'd never pursue: working with young people.

In 2014 I accepted the role of Monitoring & Evaluations Coordinator and Youth Development Mentor at Play Rugby USA through the Americorps/Up2Us Coach Across America program and moved to New York City. I served in that role for two years until I accepted the positions of Monitoring & Evaluations Manager and Youth Development Mentor Facilitator, in which I currently serve. It has been an absolute honor to be able to coach the sport I love and positively impact the lives of thousands of youths from across the five boroughs. Which leads me to my next adventure…

Play Rugby USA has given me the honor of representing them as a volunteer with Bhubesi Pride in February 2018. Bhubesi Pride is another outstanding youth rugby program operating in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia,Botswana, Namibia and South Africa offering a chance to "Unite, Empower, and Inspire".

My time with the Pride will be spent in Kenya and Uganda working with the communities throughout the countries. It will be an absolute privilege to have the opportunity to combine the passion and knowledge gained from my time with Play Rugby USA with the lessons and experiences of Bhubesi Pride, making a positive impact on the communities there and bringing their best practices back to NYC. But I will need your help!

Play Rugby USA has graciously funded a portion of my volunteer fees, and through various grant applications, I hope to ease the financial burden of both the organization and myself. That's where you come in! Through your generous donation I hope to offset the financial obligations for the following:
Flight cost from NYC to Nairobi, Kenya
Flight cost from Entebbe, Uganda to NYC
Medical Expenses (vaccinations for typhoid, yellow fever, hepatitis A,hepatitis B, meningitis, rabies, polio, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), influenza, malaria, & possible others)
Travel insurance
Any associated VISAs
It is with your help that I will have a chance to make a positive contribution to this tremendous organization that does so much for the youth and the communities that they serve. Any donated funds that exceed my listed expenses will be then donated to the Pride so they can continue and expand the powerful impact that they have.

No amount is too small of a gesture and I humbly thank you for even the thought of donating. It is with your help that I know we can make a difference!
