Help Us Celebrate Brett's Victory

Donation protected
Today, on August 3rd, 2015, Brett will
win his fight! He will have no more
pain. The only pain will be the pain that breaks our hearts.

Brett, was not very stubborn (note of sarcasm) and refused to talk about things like Life Insurance or a Living Will because his only plan was to keep
on living. Now, as a family, we are asking you to consider, if you find it in your heart and in your budget, to help us throw Brett the most ultimate victory celebration. We
love you to the moon in back.

This is Brett's baby sister, Raina. I have started this page to help Brett continue to fight his epic battle against the monster melanoma. For 3 years now, he has fought hard day and night with my family by his side as his army. The battle has reached a point where we need to expand the army.

On July 7th, 2014, Brett was taken to the ER for a severe headache. A headache that he describes as a pain like nothing he has ever felt before. Within just a couple hours, it was determined that he had a large, golf-ball sized tumor growing in the left side of his brain. This was causing immense pain, vomiting, vision loss, and more. He was immediately transferred to the main hospital in downtown Jacksonville. The next morning, Brett was taken to the OR to remove this tumor. The doctors are confident that they were able to remove the entire thing. They also informed us that he has a smaller tumor in the right cerebellum which was not operated on. The plan is to have stereotatic radiation to both areas.

Additionally, the pathology confirmed our worst fears; the tumors are indeed melanoma. His cancer is very aggressive and has spread to his brain. And that is where we stand now. There are many things that we do not know at this moment. We will use this site to keep family and friends updated as much as possible. However, what we do know is that Brett has bravely fought this beast for over 3 years now. A feat that many would have said was not possible. He has shown us that he is stronger than cancer. But, he needs our help. The family needs your help. Cancer tries to defeat not just the patient, but the entire family.

The disease has left Brett unable to work, due to the side effects of daily chemotherapy. He is no longer able to drive because of the tumors in his brain. It has placed a financial burden on my mother's shoulders that she has carried gracefully. My brother Brian, my sister Rebecca, and I have tried to help where we can. But it is not enough. We are asking friends, family, our community, and everyone else who crosses our paths to please donate what you can to help Brett's Battle. Join our army. The money we raise will go directly to medical expenses not covered by his insurance, transportation costs associated with endless appointments, and lastly, we would like to make Brett's bedroom a place where he can rest easy. His mattress is over 23 years old, the carpet is old and full of dust, and his room is always too warm for him since his medication makes him feel hot. Help us make this a place where he can feel safe and can get the rest he needs to keep fighting.

Brett can beat this. We can help. YOU can help.

Love,
Raina
