My mom was one of the people injured in the Toronto van attack that took place on Yonge St. on April 23rd. She sustained catastrophic injuries including brain trauma and having both of her legs amputated. Before this, my 81 year old mother was completely independent.
An avid walker, yoga student and doting grandmother of 5 was on her way to the library to return her books.
While my family will never come to terms with this emotionally, the reality of the costs are becoming apparent. Home modifications, an accessible van and assisted living are our new reality. She is currently in rehab and we hope she will be discharged by the end of the summer.
