Support better public education in Colombia

What is all this about?
The digital world is changing the way we do things and Education is not an exception. There are several free tools to support schools (i.e. Khan Academy , Duolingo and Scratch ), however, few public schools in Colombia use them. Thus, some of the lowest-income families in the country are missing a unique chance to better educate their children.
We realised the potential of these tools to make a breakthrough preparing children for a digital era, and are working to make this happen. In 2018 we created APPrender Paga, a pilot project in which we provide Duolingo accounts for students to improve their English and to become familiar with online learning tools. We designed a system of prizes that reward participation following behavioural economic theories, in order to motivate children to obtain a long-term goal (i.e. better education), by means of short term rewards.
Despite providing the rewards, all the logistics and the training required by schools to use these online tools, we do not charge them at all and only ask for support from teachers and principals. After the success of the pilot project, we have set an ambitious expansion plan to work with other schools and to roll-out the use of Khan Academy and Scratch. We have secured some partnerships with the private sector, but now we need your donation!
Why do we want to do this and why you should help us?
We dream to completely change the public education system in Colombia, because we will never succeed as a country until we provide high quality education for everyone. We are growing fast and have set ambitious, but realistic, targets to reach our goal, but need a bit of help. There is no better way to help Colombia than investing in innovative solutions to increase the quality of public education.
Who we are?
Red InnCol is a not-for-profit created by 5 Colombian expats, who despite the distance, wanted to work for a better country. We got tired of criticising others for our problems as a country, and realised that it is up to all citizens to find solutions. Thus, we created a platform for all citizens that were willing to help but did not know how to do so. No matter where you are, there is always something you can do through Red InnCol.
As expats, we call for other Colombians all around the world to support our dream. Any contribution is greatly appreciated. How will we invest the funds?
AUD $7,000 - Will be spent on the costs of finishing this year ́s APPrender Paga. This includes the individual and group prizes for the winners, and our operational costs for the rest of 2019.
AUD $4,500 - Will be invested in the planning and development of next year´s APPrender Paga. We want to expand to more schools, but we also want to start supporting public schools using Khan Academy, and programming tools like Tynker or scratch. We need these funds to understand how the Colombian curriculum can work with the courses offered by these platforms, and how we can implement them in public schools.
AUD $8,500 - All other funds we receive will be invested in the operational costs of next year´s APPrender Paga contest. This, of course, will be complemented with other funds we receive from our partner companies.
Why is this campaign based in Australia?
We are a registered not-for-profit in Colombia (NIT 901258404-9), however, most global crowdfunding sites do not operate there or have restrictions. Due to this, we decided to launch our campaign in Australia, where two of our founders live. We are also in the process of registering the organisation with the Australian government, but until then, we have to raise the funds as individuals because gofundme only works with certified charities in Australia, Canada, the UK and the US.

Apoya nuestro sueño de mejorar los colegios públicos en Colombia.
¿De qué se trata la campaña?
El mundo digital está cambiando el mundo, y la educación no es una excepción. Hay muchas herramientas online gratuitas para apoyar a los colegios (ej. Khan Academy , Duolingo and Scratch ). Sin embargo, pocos colegios públicos en Colombia las usan. Por ende, muchas familias de los sectores más humildes de la sociedad están perdiendo una oportunidad única para educar a sus hijos e hijas.
Nosotros vimos este potencial y queremos hacer la diferencia preparando a estas niñas y niños para la era digital, y estamos trabajando en ello. En 2018 creamos APPrender Paga, un proyecto piloto en el que creamos cuentas de Duolingo para los y las estudiantes de un colegio, para que ellos puedan practicar inglés y se familiaricen con estas herramientas digitales. Asimismo, basándonos en teorías de economía conductual desarrollamos un sistema de incentivos para motivar a los participantes a obtener un objetivo a largo plazo (ej. mejor educación), por medio de premios a corto plazo.
A pesar de proveer los premios y toda la logística necesaria, no le cobramos a los colegios absolutamente nada, y solo pedimos apoyo de los profesores y directivas. Después del éxito del proyecto piloto, hemos definido un plan ambicioso, pero realista, para expandirnos a otros colegios y para empezar a usar otras herramientas como Khan Academy y Scratch. Hemos asegurado algo de apoyo del sector privado pero necesitamos de tu donación.
¿Por qué queremos hacer esto y por qué nos deberías ayudar?
Soñamos con cambiar completamente el sistema de educación pública en Colombia, porque nunca saldremos adelante como país a menos que le ofrezcamos educación de alta calidad a todos y todas. Estamos creciendo rápidamente, pero necesitamos algo de ayuda. Creemos que no hay mejor forma de ayudar a Colombia que invertir en soluciones innovadoras para aumentar la calidad de la educación pública.
¿Quiénes somos?
Red InnCol es una organización sin ánimo de lucro creada por 5 colombianos en el exterior, quienes a pesar de la distancia querían ayudar al país. Nos cansamos de criticar a otros por nuestros problemas como país, y nos dimos cuenta que encontrar soluciones es una tarea de todos los ciudadanos. ¿En qué invertiremos los fondos?
AUD $7,000 - serán usados para cubrir los costos restantes del proyecto de este año.
AUD $ 4,500 – serán invertidos en la planeación del proyecto APPrender Paga 2020. Queremos empezar a usar Khan Academy y Scratch, pero para esto requerimos comparar su contenido con el currículo Colombiano, y diseñar una estrategia de implementación.
AUD $8,500 – Todos los otros fondos recibidos serán invertidos en el proyecto APPrender Paga 2020.
¿Por qué esta campaña está basada en Australia?
Somos una organización sin ánimo de lucro registrada en Colombia como fundación (NIT 901258404-9). Sin embargo, la mayoría de plataformas globales de crowdfunding no operan en Colombia u operan con restricciones, por ende, nos era más fácil lanzar la campaña desde Australia, donde viven dos de nuestro fundadores. Todavía no estamos registrados en Australia, por ende debemos lanzar la campaña a nombre de un individuo, pues gofundme sólo trabaja con organizaciones cuando están registradas en Australia, Canadá, el Reino Unido o Estados Unidos.

La transparencia es un pilar en nuestra organización. Presentaremos dos reportes por año, dando detalles de nuestro desempeño financiero. En ellos incluiremos detalles de los recursos que hemos recibido y de la forma en la que hemos gastado cada uno de los centavos recibidos.
