A Personal Story
As an Indian citizen living away from my family and friends, my heart sinks to see the dire situation back home. There is not enough protection available for essential workers, including my father who owns a pharmacy in India. As a founding team member of Breathe99 , our core values are rooted in supporting all human lives and we believe it's our responsibility to give back and help others.
A Dire Need for Better Protection
Unfortunately, the devastating situation in India is only getting worse. The country’s health care system is overwhelmed, and India has recorded over 19 million+ confirmed COVID cases and it continues to break global records, reporting more than 400,000 new cases daily. As of May, 222,408 people had died. The actual death count far exceeds the official figures due to lack of hospital beds, oxygen cylinders, and PPE to prevent people from catching the virus.
Better Masks for Young Cancer Survivors
We decided we could have the greatest impact by sending our B2 Mask to cancer survivors and others who are more susceptible to airborne diseases. We're teaming up with with various charities to help distribute better masks first to immunocompromised youth and essential workers in India, as the country fights the world’s worst coronavirus surge.
Our mask will provide individuals exceptional protection against airborne droplets and also against against urban pollution (another significant environmental health risk in India). With each donation, we will provide enough filters for up to 8 months of protection.
Fundraising on GoFundMe
We're on GoFundMe with the goal to raise enough funds to protect up to 1200 children and teens battling cancer. We have identified small organizations that can accept hundreds of masks at a time.
MaskTite has donated 600 packs of MaskTite strips to be distributed at local pharmacies in India.
Below are funding thresholds and the amount of donations. These totals include the cost of masks, shipping, 28% duties & taxes. Breathe99 will cover the cost of additional filter packs.
$35,000 - 300 B2 masks, 600 additional filter packs
$68,000 - 600 B2 masks, 1200 additional filter packs
$100,000 - 900 B2 masks, 1800 additional filter packs
$130,000 - 1200 B2 masks, 2400 additional filter packs
