Beth (Norton) Gray’s journey to health is almost ending.  She is turning a corner and she is getting close to some relief.   It’s been a long ride and we all are tired.  We are thankful for the part everyone has played in getting her to this point.

Beth is headed into brain surgery.

In September 2017, it was finally discovered that Beth has a cystic brain tumor behind her eyes in the pineal gland area.  After years of living life from her bedroom, some days too tired to stand, she finally had an answer. She has struggled with her vision her whole life.  Focusing her vision has been hard for her for so long.  Both of her eyes have had retinal detachments. Headaches are her norm. The tumor, is thought to be non cancerous at this time, is located on top of the gland that controls her natural melatonin levels. This has caused great sleep disturbances for years and has been the reason for what felt at times to be an eternity of seemingly endless days of awake.  This causes brain confusion and energy loss in the days to follow, causing a vicious cycle.  A well known surgeon will be operating on Beth’s brain in April at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Texas.  He will remove the tumor and scrape the gland.  It will be tested upon dissection. Within days, Beth’s vision is expected to improve.   She can see but focusing is a struggle.  Seeing to read is a challenge as is other daily tasks.

Beth is a mom of 3 amazing kids.  She is looking forward to being a better functioning parent.  She has been married for close to 17 years.  She used to work from home.  Before she was sick, she was an exercise teacher.  She also was a foster mom.  She is a Middle Township Alumni and grew up in Cape May County. She is hopeful of the future ahead.

We are fundraising to ask for help to have her family be able to surround her as she reboots her life.  Recovery from surgery will be a process.  We are hoping to provide a place to stay and meals for her immediate family in Texas as she recovers for 18 days before she is cleared to return home to New Jersey.
