Berwick Literary Festival is an independent, volunteer-run event, supported by local sponsors and generous individual patrons, and without significant corporate funding. In 2020 and 2021 we ran our festivals on Zoom, free of charge, returning to live events on a heavily-subsidised basis in 2022. We also (unusually for a literary festival) arrange for all the schools in our area a programme of free enrichment activities for all ages, as detailed on our website.
For 2023 we have a full line-up of in-person speaker events and some on Zoom, still priced at the minimum to reward authors fairly, encourage attendance, but not to generate a surplus. Our programming aims to create an engaging and diverse cross-section of topics and speakers, some of international repute, others with a focus on Northumberland and the Scottish Borders, rather than list celebrities or best-sellers.
We are very grateful for donors' generous support: their past gifts have meant that the Festival has returned for 2023 stronger and better-known. We hope you will support us, to remain an independent and inventive festival.
Thank you very much.
