On December 24, 2011 my sister, Berta (Peterson) Boyle was rushed to the hospital in excruciating pain. What was expected to be a routine gallbladder surgery turned into something much worse. Berta was diagnosed with Adrenal cancer. A very rare type of cancer that only affects about 200 people each year in the U.S. The surgeon removed a 10 cm tumor that unfortunately was malignant…
Thus begins the journey of Berta’s Cancer.
Over the last 6+ years we have seen Berta struggle with various treatments starting in 2012. The treatments included chemo, infusions, steroids and various other medications to help manage the extreme pain she has developed over the years. The cancer has spread to areas of her body that press against her back, side and heart. She has faced various trials of experimental treatments that have not proven to work. Her last bout with chemo was also proven unsuccessful and the tumors continue to grow. Because of the numerous treatments and after effects, Berta has not been unable to work for the last few months and has had numerous problems getting aid or response for Workman’s Compensation. The insurance is a constant battle for approvals and the hospital bills are growing everyday.
I am asking and pleading that those of you who know me or my sister Berta, help her with her finances and the sooner the better. I know we are bombarded with GoFundMe pages daily with the wake of many tragedies but I am hoping you can spare a few dollars to help with her cause. Not only does she need money for the medical bills, but also for transportation to the hospital for treatment and doctor visits, prescriptions, and bare necessities.
Berta is continuing to battle this rare cancer and our hope is extremely high with the new experimental treatment she started this month, even though the side effects are rough, Berta constantly proves she is a fighter and wants to rid of this once an for all so if you can fight for her I would truly appreciate it!
