Bernell Trammell Legacy

In the weeks since Bernell’s murder it has been a whirlwind of emotion.  As his wife of 18 years and mother of 2 of his children, we were shocked and saddened deeply by his unexpected death.  My children's father was gunned down in broad daylight, right in front of his business.  The possibility of future communication with his children has been shattered.

We need to make sure his wishes are honored:  To be cremated and his ashes scattered in the Atlantic ocean, “with his bredrin” he used to say.

As the community and his family knows, he loved the Riverwest community and his place in it.  We need your help to preserve his building that he maintained for nearly 20 years.  We want to keep the building in the family.  With rising legal costs and debt beginning to be accounted for this will be a challenge.  Close family members will be in charge of final expenses.

News Article Bernell Trammell was shot and killed outside his office

His family was quite involved with him and his various businesses over the years.  As his wife, beginning in 1999, I worked daily with him on the eXpressions Journal and his numerous other publications for over 17 years.  His daughter and son helped with the publications and other businesses once they were old enough.   His brothers and sisters and their children, as well, assisted with the various businesses over his life time.  They worked closely together at times and looked out for each other.   This sudden loss has a huge impact on all members of the family.  We all miss this most complex, loving, emotional, private yet public man.   He was actually quite the family man.

We would also like to preserve the archives of the individual voice he so dearly cared about.   Over the years he would often pay tribute to all those who had helped to represent his eXpressions Journal Publications/Xpressions Journal Periodicals publishing mission beginning in the early 90's, both by publishing his gratitude in the periodicals and in words shared between husband and wife.  He was very grateful for these individuals and their assistance in forwarding the mission and, as well, for the community who supported the mission.

Bernell loved life and the complexity of emotion that came with it.  He loved freedom of expression and expressing himself.  He enjoyed the Riverwest community and the variety of folk therein.  He loved his children and his family, he would want us to keep his voice alive, he does not want to be forgotten.
