The money being raised is for Bernardo Hernandez and his family.
On the evening of November 7th, 2019, Bernardo was involved in a bad car accident near Story City on his way home from work in Des Moines when bad, slick road conditions had caused him to lose control therefore causing him to roll his vehicle several times.
Bernardo was immediately sent to Mercy Medical Hospital in Des Moines where it was discovered he had broken his neck and back, and needed emergency spinal surgery.
Although surgery was successful, Bernardo is still left with being paralyzed below his chest, and having loss of feelings in his fingers.
Bernardo has spent 7 days in ICU and has recently been transferred to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln Nebraska for their Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Program. His length of treatment is unknown until his assessment is completed. Bernardo will return home in a wheelchair and will have to adjust to his new limitations as well as family members adjusting to the change.
Bernardo is the father of twin 11-year olds, Abby and Ayden and the stepfather to Kathy and Joseph. He is the husband of Mary Hernandez for 10+ years. Bernardo was a construction worker for several years.
Funds raised will go towards medical needs and individual needs for Bernardo, gas and food for family members to drive to see Bernardo, assistance with bills, and other needs of the family home.
