Bernard's Situation

In 2019 Bernard “Bernie” Yenelouis, an Artist, Art Worker, Educator, and Situationist , was diagnosed with ALS [Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis] also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.”
To quote Bernie’s doctor at the Eleanor and Lou Gehrig ALS Center at Columbia University , “ALS is a chronic, progressive, terminal disease affecting the central nervous system. The nature of the illness causes severe weakness and wasting skeletal and bulbar muscles with ultimate respiratory failure. At present, there is no treatment or cure.”
Today, as he nears his 60th birthday, Bernie is facing the daunting challenge of moderating the symptoms of this incurable disease amidst the palpable stress of mounting medical bills, a dire need for good quality care at any cost, new medications and their effects, and a near future without the ability to work.
Our goal is to aid him in extending his excellent existence of inquisitive, funny, and creative engagement with people and places that will buoy him.
Over the past 35+ years as a New York Artist, Bernie has been among the most faithful contributors of artwork and time and energy to every benefit and cause to raise funds, and now we are passing the hat asking that his community of artists, collectors, educators, and fellow Bohemians make a gift for his 60th birthday that will assist him now with some assurance that bills are paid, and he can attain a truly dignified quality of life at this critical moment.
Our goal is $60,000 celebrating his 60 truly remarkably precious years as our most brilliant and fascinating and fun friend and brother.
