Meet Bennet. A beautiful 3 year old boy. He has great parents that love him. Just your average little boy. Until May of 2019.
May, 2019, the Bicigo family was overjoyed to welcome their baby girl. They knew Bennet was going to be an amazing big brother to his baby sister. The perfect family.
Their joy was stolen abruptly by news no parent should ever hear.
Bennet was diagnosed with liver cancer the beginning of May this last year. He endured four rounds of chemotherapy at AFCH in Madison. The doctors at Madison suggested a transplant but Mom and Dad advocated for him and found a surgeon who could save Bennet’s liver.
Bennet underwent major liver surgery in Chicago at the end of August.
After recovery he then had to have two more rounds of chemotherapy. During these 7 months he went through several ups and downs. He had to have an emergent appendectomy and endured two central line infections. One severe enough he had to have his central line removed.
After everything this baby battled through, his cancer markers where with in normal limits and was deemed in remission in November 2019. God is good.
During a routine checkup and lab draw in late January 2020 the doctors discovered that his cancer marker was extremely elevated and they did a CT scan.
The Bicigio family’s nightmare was again becoming a reality.
They found he has another tumor growing on his liver. The cancer is back.
There is no plan at this time as far as treatment. The best doctors and surgeons across the country are being consulted about what is the next step.
He will most definitely need to have another surgery and extensive chemotherapy treatment with more drugs and for maybe longer.
Bennet’s dad may need to leave his job to be there for treatments, tests, and appointments. Bennets mom is And ER nurse. For 13 hours a day she gives her best to strangers, when she wants nothing more than to be with her little fighter.
Their baby boy having cancer is enough for one family to try and comprehend. A world none of us want to navigate. Please, join with me and help take some of the financial stressors away from this sweet boy and his family.
