This is my darling Benjamin- my husband.
Ben has stage 4 kidney failure.
Ben is 31 years old.
He needs a kidney transplant.
He is the perfect candidate for the life-saving procedure. He's immensely young to have kidney failure, a genetic fluke, not caused at all by any decision he has made.
Ben takes care of his body and listens to his doctors. He has slowed the degeneration of his failing kidneys through his healthy lifestyle, but he now has only 11% function of one kidney. Ben has started dialysis to keep his body from becoming toxic.
Life expectancy on dialysis is 5 years. It leaves the patient and family mentally and physically exhausted.
Ben can live 8x as long with a new kidney.
