UPDATE: 6th Commonwealth Taekwondo Championships, Edinburgh Scotland.
Ben won his match against England and managed to reach the quarter finals. At the quarter finals, he was winning 8-7 until the end of 2nd round, but the more experienced opponent managed to catch up on the 3rd round. Unfortunately, he narrowly missed out on the bronze medal for Australia.
Lots of lessons learned from this tournament and hoping to get another chance to represent Australia at an international taekwondo championships for 2015 and beyond. Thank you very much again for all your ongoing support :)
We've created this page to help and support Ben's new Taekwondo Journey as being part of an Australian team squad for the 6th Commonwealth Taekwondo Championships. This will be held at the Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland on November 15-16 2014.
Last August, Ben competed at the Australian Open (held at Sports Centre, Sydney Olympic Park), in which he won gold medal and brought home the title. This achievement made him qualified for this upcoming prestigious event.
At this stage, all trips are self-funded or sponsor-funded. Expenses include competition fees, insurance, airfares, accomodation, general travel expenses, training fees, and Australian team uniforms (in which at this stage, is subsidized by STA as Ben just recently represented Australia this year at the World Cadet Championships - thank you very much :)
With helping Ben chase his goals and following his dreams, it does come at a cost and any sponsorship or donations (big or small) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!!!
Ben started training at Elite Martial Arts Australia from the age of 8 and has already achieved so much at his young age of 12.
To list a few of his major taekwondo achievements to this date:
November 2014 - Australian Representative for male cadet <33kg and became a quarter-finalist at the 6th Commonwealth Taekwondo Championships, held in Edinburgh, Scotland.
August 2014 - Australian Open - gold medal
July 2014 - Australian Representative for male cadet <33kg at the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) 1st World Cadet Taekwondo Championships, held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
June 2014 - Champions of the West, Young Achiever Winner
He was featured on multiple newspaper articles from Mt.Druitt-St Mary's Standard and the Daily Telegraph. He had an interview with SBS Filipino radio. He was also interviewed on Channel 7 news and Channel 9's Today Show.
April 2014 - Sports Taekwondo Australia (STA) National Teams Selections, held in Perth, Australia - gold medal (which qualified him to represent Australia at the World Cadet Championships)
February 2014 - Young Achiever Winner for the News Local Junior Sports Star Award.
