On Monday the 18th of June, at the young age of 26, our much-loved Benjamin Wright passed away unexpectedly.

Ben was on the trip of a lifetime, finally embarking on a much-anticipated travelling adventure through South East Asia and Europe with two of his best mates from the Sunshine Coast. Shortly into the Europe part of the trip Ben became unwell. What started off as a mild bloating, soon turned into an inability to eat and hydrate. After seeing multiple doctors, it was concluded to be gastritis for which he was given basic medication.

As the boys arrived in Barcelona, Ben’s condition significantly started deteriorating which led to him being admitted to the emergency department at a Hospital in Barcelona. By this stage the doctors had realised that his condition was serious and he was placed in ICU. He was in heart, liver & kidney failure.

Initially he improved slightly with the care in ICU but during the boys visit on Saturday, three days after being admitted, Ben informed them that he had been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect after heart scans had been conducted. The condition had been undiagnosed throughout his life and could have manifested it self at any time although Ben was unaware of it until this point. Even so, Ben was told that he could be taken out of ICU the following week and once discharged from hospital and his health had fully recovered he was planning to continue his trip through Europe.

Ben slept all through Sunday afternoon and night (the doctors informed us later that he was not aware of the seriousness of his condition) but in the early hours of Monday morning he suffered from 3 heart attacks and despite all efforts, he passed away. Sadly, this was only hours before his Mother and Brother had arrived in Barcelona from Australia to see him.

Ben's circumstances are considerably unique. Ben was 26 years young, healthy, strong, and fit. It goes without saying that the news of his passing came as a complete shock to his friends and family back home. He was an entertainer, a charismatic and charming young man, with a fundamentally loveable personality and a big heart. Allot of people knew him as the magician, street performer, musician, busker. To his friends and family, he was this, and much more.

Ben had travel insurance which is expected to cover the costs of bringing him back home to Australia. It does not take into account the funeral expenses, a celebration of Ben’s life and allowing time for his family to take leave from work to grieve.

We are asking for any donations, whether big or small, to show support to Ben's family and would like to be able to ease some of the financial burden that has been placed upon them because of this devastating and unexpected loss.

We would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support at this difficult time.
