Ben and Sara's Mira(cle)

Hello,

Our names are Josh and Jerolyn Urbach. Together, we are organizing a Gofundme campaign for Ben and Sara Urbach and their daughter Mira Violet. Mira is our niece and granddaughter.

We gathered together on January 13, 2024 to celebrate Ben and Sara’s wedding. They were excited to start their new life together! With their first baby already on the way, things were promising for this young family. We all were anxiously awaiting the birth of their little girl. All of us were thinking about a nursery and buying those cute little onsies! Unfortunately, the little girl had a different idea…

Little Mira’s due date was May 25, 2024. Wanting to arrive early to meet her wonderful parents, Sara started preterm labor on January 25, 2024 and was admitted to the hospital. Sara had an emergency C—section that night with only minutes to spare to deliver Mira. Thankfully, Mira was delivered—at 22 weeks and 5 days gestation. She weighed 1 pound and 0.06 ounces and was 11.4 inches long. Mira is one the earliest births ever in Nebraska.

Since birth, she has been fighting for her life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The cost for the NICU is anywhere between 3,000 and 20,000 dollars PER DAY, depending on the amount of care the baby needs. We see progress every day, but this is a LONG JOURNEY for Ben and Sara and their baby. There will be bumps in the road for Mira, but she has already proven to be a fighter! She has even been called feisty! We pray and then pray again for Mira.

Although Mira is getting wonderful care, her parents need care, too. Sara, because of the C-section will be off work for a few weeks. Ben is back to work, but thinks about Sara and Mira constantly. They both have feelings of uncertainty and helplessness. They do all they can for Mira. Just the thought of the quickly accumulating medical bills puts stress on this new family. At the end of this journey, Mira will literally be a “million dollar baby.” Insurance only goes so far. They need our help.

We want Ben and Sara to be able to give Mira the care she will need when she is able to come home. They have a lot of bonding to catch up on with their daughter. We would love it if this campaign raised enough funds, not only to help with medical bills, but also for Ben to be able to take an extended paternity leave. There will be lots to figure out with her care. Ben and Sara will need to support and lean on each other.

Because of her fragile start to life, Mira will not be able to attend daycare. The loss of Sara’s income is also concerning for Ben and Sara.

We are proud of Ben and Sara—it is not easy to leave the hospital without your baby. They are doing everything they can for their little girl. She is strong and perfect—but tiny and fragile. We all already love her so much.
