Bella's Final Expenses

Sweet Bella "Bee" blessed Kim and Dan's lives for over 8 precious years. On Monday night, November 20, she joined her friends in heaven and is now doing all the things that she never could in the confines of her body while on earth. Bella's beautiful smile and sparkle in her eyes--always so strikingly prominent in all the photos of her over the years--must be beaming even more now!
The reason for this fund request is for Bella's final expenses. Over the years, I have had very candid conversations with Dan over the similarity of our respective journeys with our daughters and running small (very small) businesses. One of the things I learned upon the passing of our daughter is that everything that is there to financially support the family during the journey (eg., IHSS) abruptly ends. Unlike a corporate job or other employment venues, there is no bereavement leave or anything that helps mitigate the financial impact to the family while mourning the loss of a loved one.
IHSS (In Home Supportive Services, a financial resource that provides limited financial supported in the medical care of a child with special needs) stopped as soon as Bella went into the hospital earlier this month. And the family has been spending everything to privately fund nursing and attend to Bella and her needs while hospitalized. There's literally nothing left to fund her final expenses, pay mortgage, or even food. And this is historically a very slow time of year for Dan's business, anyway. Bottom line: they need your help.
The average cost for a funeral is over $7,100, depending on options chosen, of course. And the bank still wants the mortgage paid ($1600), utilities (~$200), and food. As such, it is my sincere hope that at this time of Thanksgiving and holidays, we can all remember to embrace our families, be grateful for what we have, and help relieve the stresses for the Bartlett family that come from losing their precious daughter.
