Bella's Radiation Therapy- Beat the Brain Tumor!

Bella is our 12 year old dachshund baby. She is the love of our lives. This past weekend she acutely lost the ability to walk and seemed dull and lethargic. We rushed her to a Neurology clinic where an MRI was performed. It was found that she has a large tumor on her Pituitary Gland in her skull that is starting to press on her brain and brainstem. We were devastated and thought we were going to be saying goodbye to her.
We consulted with a Radiation Oncologist who said we need to immediately start her on a steroid to see her response. If she responds well to steroid therapy, she will be a good candidate for radiation. Radiation is a 4 week process but with radiation she has a great prognosis with an average survival time of 3-4 years. Within 24 hours of starting the steroid therapy, she turned around and started walking and barking at us for food and treats as her usual self. She was feeling much better and we are hopeful that with Radiation Therapy she will make a great recovery and we will get several more years with our princess. Without radiation therapy, we were told that she would only have 1-2 more months with us. We cannot bear losing her now. Other than this tumor she is a healthy little girl with so much more life in her. The Oncologist has a 100% success rate with this type of radiation therapy.
The Radiation and Cancer care hospital is 4 hours away from us. We had to drop her off this past weekend and she will be boarding there for 4 weeks and we will go visit as often as we can. We already miss her dearly, but are hopeful that this treatment will give us several more healthy years with her.
