Team Beirut Bakesale: Maxime van Namen, Joris Ter Meulen, Miriam de Baets, Carmen de Baets and Natasha de Baets

Due to the success of the Beirut Bakesale in Amsterdam we are continuing our efforts to help rebuild Beirut's hospitality worst affected by the explosion. For those of you who weren't able to attend the event but still want to help and for those who would like to offer their continued support.

We are adding the money raised from this fundraiser to what we have raised on the 29th of August during the bakesale (3.600) and are currently gathering names and addresses of those worst affected. We are receiving them by the 100s from trusted family members based in Beirut. The money will be distributed straight into the hands of business owners in Lebanon.

Thank you!!

For more about the August 4 explosion and the Beirut Bakesale please read below:

On August 4th, in seconds, the third largest explosion in the world shook Beirut to its core. 300,000 people are displaced and many are still missing. If this would have happened in NYC, double the size of Manhattan would be destroyed, gone. Beirut’s bustling heart has been deeply affected, every business owner lost their restaurant/shop/atelier/office/home/loved ones.

Just imagine.

Tragedies all over the world are forgotten after a few days but for the country actually experiencing it, especially for Lebanon with all its other struggles incl. inflation, corruption, refugee crisis, corona, it will take years and years to recover.

This is why Beirut needs our continued support.

On August 30th the Amsterdam hospitality community has come together to raise awareness and funds for restaurants, bakeries and cafes that have been most affected by the explosion, to help rebuild what makes Beirut so special, its food scene.

We are eternally grateful for everyone that contributed and showed up to support us. This has are inspired to keep this effort going and that is why we have decided to continue to strive for awareness and to try to keep raising funds for our Beirut.

So that we may once again go and be inspired by all the flavors of Lebanon.

We have identified key people on the ground that we vouch for and trust to help us identify who needs the money the most, those small restaurants and bakeries that have no Instagram accounts. The proceeds will be distributed directly in cash and will be used to rebuild. We will keep a list of names, places and photos of where the donations have gone to.
