Rautio Piano Trio Records Beethoven

In 2021 the Rautio Piano Trio will begin recording the complete cycle of Beethoven piano trios, following on from the composer’s 250th anniversary in 2020. Four volumes will be released over the next four years on the Resonus Classics label. We will recreate the sound world of the period by recording on historical instruments and using a fortepiano.

This project follows the Trio’s critically acclaimed debut disc featuring Mozart piano trios recorded on a fortepiano belonging to the late Christopher Hogwood. It was hailed by the Observer as ‘an impressive achievement’ and received multiple five-star reviews. It is often be played on BBC Radio 3, including for ‘Composer of the Week’.

Recording the complete cycle of piano trios in 4 discs

Part 1: Early piano trios (discs 1 & 2)
Part 2: Middle period piano trios (disc 3 & 4)

Fundraising Summer 2021

We are currently fundraising for the first two discs of the Beethoven Cycle. The cost of making a recording includes producer, sound engineer, studio hire, piano hire and piano technician. These costs are high when compared with our personal incomes as musicians. Recording is important to us as it helps us reach a wider audience with our music available on CD and online. This also results in an increase of concert opportunities in new venues and an increase in supporters.
Our artistic vision aims to be innovative and imaginative with our recording choices. The Beethoven trios have been widely recorded before but there are very few on historical instruments. We think this might even be the first complete cycle of Beethoven Trios  recorded with fortepiano.
