I'm not exactly sure how to tell this story. I walk between being funny and trying not to embarass our family.
I was awarded full custody of my sons back in 2012. My ex hadn't talked to them since May 2014 on the phone. We recieved a life changing call at 2 am on June 26th; just a few weeks before our son's 16th birthday. It is suspected that she either over dosed or combined some medications. The autopsy is pending. The manner of her dealth is NOT the reason for seeking help. After years of her not paying child support, I realized we wouldn't ever get much, if anything. I planned on saving the money she paid for the boys college or first car.
Now we find ourselves borrowing money, airline miles, and favors to be able to get back to Virginia to get all the kids together. The boys hadn't seen their half siblings in years.
Their mother did not have a job for long. Just a few weeks here, or a month there. She had no property. She had no life insurance. There is NOTHING to help the boys in their future. I just pray for something to come out of all the years of loss.
I know we are not wealthy. I know we will never be able to raise enough to pay for their college 100% or get them a super nice first car. I just want some sort of legacy to give them. We were owed thousands in child support, which is now all null and void. It was verified, today (07/05/17), there are NO death benefits from Social Security. We just spent all we had and borrowed money to make it to them after this all happened. Now, we have to find a way to get them back to Houston after running through savings. We want to have some sort of legacy or memorial for them and that isn't possible with out help.
