Help me go to PMDMC 2018!

I'm Becky! I work hard to help community radio grow. I hope to go to the Public Media Development and Marketing Conference (PMDMC) in July so I can share what I learn with grassroots stations!
I've been a community media maker since 2006, when I first joined WVFS Tallahassee. I now work at KBOO in Portland, where I build the station's financial capacity to serve our community. I also serve on the board of KFFP in Portland, and volunteer for Oregon Community Media .
I believe that community radio can be a powerful force for change in today's media environment. Many of you have probably seen how Sinclair Media, America's largest local TV owner, uses the trust viewers put in their local news to further the company's own agenda. This is just one example. Corporate media is not programmed in the interests of their individual listening communities.
In contrast: non-commercial media, particularly grassroots community radio, gives people back the power to tell their own stories. However, there is a deep divide between the kinds of resources available to non-commercial broadcasters - many community licensees and LPFMs operate on next-to-nothing. If given the chance, these radio stations can grow to live their missions more effectively.
And that's where going to the PMDMC comes in!
Over a 1,000 public media leaders and revenue-generating professionals from organizations of all sizes join together to share knowledge over a week in July. This conference, presented by Greater Public and PBS, is not only a way to connect with other fundraisers - it's a way to increase awareness of community stations as an important part of pub media ecosystem. And it's a great place to gather the tools I need to work smarter for the cause I truly love - and to share what I learn with other grassroots radio lovers.
Remember that part about how community stations and LPFMs run super lean? I need a lot of help to make it to the PMDMC - but if I go, I know I can make an impact with the knowledge I gain. Will you help me go to the PMDMC?
Here's what this looks like:
PMDMC registration - $1,225
Turn Ideas Into Action: A Design Thinking Workshop fee - $375
roundtrip flight PDX to CHI - $500
HI hostel stay, dorm - $275
food & stuff - $180
CTA pass - $33
What I commit to doing with this knowledge is to share it. I am the co-chair for the Grassroots Radio Conference in Portland this October, and I plan on giving workshops there. I'll also be attending the National Federation of Community Broadcasters summit in California. And I'm always here for my radio community, where I have the privilege to practice my skills.
Thank you so much for backing this campaign. The future is community radio!
In gratitude,
Becky
