Becki's Medical Expenses

On July 11, I went in for my first colonoscopy. When I told my Dr I had been experiencing abdominal pain he decided to have an Ultrasound done. Upon reviewing the results in the patient portal of the imaging center, I learned that there were 3 metastasized lesions were found in my liver. I googled the word metastasized and my life was forever changed. I had cancer, I just didn’t know where it originated from. After doctors requesting tests and being denied by the health insurance only to be told that a lesser test needed to be done first, I was told that the cancer was Pancreatic.
Since then, I have been unable to work, drive myself to any appts, go grocery shopping, walk my dogs, pick up my granddaughter, to name just a few things that have changed.
It has been six months and I have exhausted my short term disability, been accepted by long term disability, and submitted paperwork for Social Security Benefits, which should take effect by July 2018. Until then, I need to pay $652 per month to keep health insurance for just me. It costs another $850 to insure my husband who works for a small local business that does not carry insurance for its employees. This is a $1500 (plus) per month expense that we have never incurred. To pay that for 6 months, until the SS Disability kicks in is a total of $9,000. I am hoping to raise some of this to help make each months payment.
