The StFX Coady International Institution is a place where I feel at home. This past summer I completed a three-week workshop called Skills for Social Change. I was fortunate to learn, in numerous ways, how to make significant change in the local and global community. The one thing I have a stronger passion for other than StFX is my ability to make a difference. I am a committed member of our global community and I am happy to enlighten others of their ability to create change as well. I would be extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to take part in this course. I have high hopes of this course filling in the empty gaps that I have yet to learn about development. Not only learning about MST but also gaining skills and knowledge to create future social change.

This is an intensive undergraduate spring course that takes place primarily in Brazil. It consists of the study of Brazilian social movements, politics and culture in general and, in particular, the Movement of Landless Rural Workers (Movimento de Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra do Brasil, or MST). The course will include studies of and meetings with Brazilian social movements, labour unions, political parties, universities and other actors on the political scene in Brazil. The period in Brazil will be preceded and followed by research and research assignments.
