Beauty and Blessings in Brazil

My name is Melissa Harding. I am a math teacher by trade and am passionate about dance, children, and crafting as well. This summer I have the unique opportunity to travel to Brazil with my church to share the beauty of the Gospel. 

At the beginning of the year, I began sponsoring a young lady in Northern Brazil whose family is experiencing poverty. We were connected by a non-profit called Compassion International and for the next 12 years I will have the privilege of corresponding with, supporting, and loving on Ana and her family. Compassion International has set up care centers near her town where children like Ana are able to get meals, schooling, and the love of Christ poured into their lives. Vintage, my church home, will be partnering with Compassion to send a team to minister to the children and families who are enrolled at these centers.

After taking time to pray and reflect, I believe that I am being called to be a part of this team.  We will be traveling to Brazil for a week in June 2018 to do home visits delivering food and supplies, interacting with the children at the centers, and completing construction projects. A highlight of the trip will be the moment that I get to meet the young lady that I am sponsoring.

Over the next two months I will be raising money to fund my trip. My final due date is May 16, 2018. Half of the money will cover the airfare portion of the trip and the other half will go towards travel documentation fees, immunizations, lodging, food and water, project supplies, local transportation, and other expenses.
