Beautiful Suzanne

Thank you to everyone taking the time to read this and to all who are sharing this story.

Suzanne Dudley (actor, singer, wit, straight talker, wine lover and beautiful friend) was diagnosed on August 1st with Stage 4 Primary Glioblastoma (Brain Cancer). The tumour has been successfully removed and she will be commencing 6 weeks of radiotherapy and chemo in a week. We are hopeful for brilliant results, but at this stage there remains no permanent cure.

Flashback to earlier this year - Suzanne was settling into an exciting new job but was struggling with sleep due to leg and arm spasms. This sleep deprivation left her depleated and exhausted. She also started to struggle with language and some comprehension. She replaced words with other words. Skilled health practictioners diagnosed it as stress and treated it as such but it got worse. We knew something was seriously wrong. After further enquiry the tumour was identified.

Suzanne remains totally upbeat, grateful and happy. She cant believe the level of care she is recieving from the brilliant doctors and medical practictioners whose care she is in. Knowing what the problem is has actually been a godsend. Her language and strength is improving daily. Suzanne does have a modest financial nest egg but she will not be returning to work and her government pension only just covers her rent. All other expenses to come will be drawn from her savings. For those of you who do not know, Suzanne has been dealt a number of big financial blows in her life. Her father abandoned his wife while she was pregnant with her only daughter. Suzanne herself raised her son Tom solo from when he was a toddler, with only token financial support from her ex husband  Later down the track a doctor she worked with as a medicial receptionist over many years disclosed that he had never put aside her supperannuation entitlements. This money never saw the light of day. Finally, two years ago Suzannes father left an estate worth millions in property and cash to a lady friend and three of Suzannes Melbourne based cousins. He left nothing to his only daughter and grandson. The cousins did not alert Suzanne as to her fathers passing, waiting close to a year before telling her. This left her legally helpless. As a result the only avenue she could take under Victorian Law was to apply for a percentage of the money they had set aside to cover tax. After an exhausting legal battle Suzanne recieved a payment from this allocated tax funds. It certainly took its emotional and physical toll.

We want to keep Suzanne in the apartment she adores and give her all the options someone in her position should have.

Tom is a wonderful support to his mother but as a twenty something living in one of the worlds most expensive cities he is in no position to assist financially, although he regularly supplements her rent. We, as her friends, collegues, mates and mates of mates can now step up. In this we acknowledge the amazing people who have already offered such generous practical support, especially Annie McCubbin and Liddy Clark who have walked with her through every step.  We also acknowledge the generousity of those who have already assisted financially. Thank you so much.

PLEASE know that she is desperate for people to not donate if they are not able and to know that she is not destitute. She does not want to put  anyone out, as she knows only too well what not having the funds feels like. This campaign was not her idea and took a lot of persuding on my part. Only give IF YOU CAN and WHAT YOU CAN. From little things big things grow.

Lets create a village and protect this women. To quote Arthur Miller - "Attention must be paid to such a person."

Thank you so much
