Beast Boutique: TOKYO

After a thrilling Instillation at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris The Beast Boutique has been invited to Tokyo! 

From mid November to mid January 2019, I will be performing with a delightful cast of characters at Le Forum, Ginza Maison Hermès.

The Hermès Foundation is wonderfully generous, but I need funding to help cover living, travel, and production expenses.

 Biography: Jennifer Vinegar Avery is a graduate of Brown University. She/they has worked extensively in arts education/empowerment for youth and in production deign for theatre. Vinegar was the first American to become an Artist in Residence for the Hermès Foundation in France, where she made a body of textile work in the Hermès silk factory just outside of Lyon. Personal Artist Statement: Perhaps more than anything else I am interested in empathy. I am obsessed with textures and like to feel haptically, corporeally and emotionally. I have found the experiences of opposites aids this experience. Much of my work takes on the aspects of childhood and fairy tale through the lenses of a cherished nightmare and personal identity.  I am fond of coloring books, playing dress-up, magical animals and dolls.   I am often seduced by research of “feminine labor” from bobbin lace weaving to spinning/ designing fibers to fashion design to preparing desserts. I thoroughly enjoy combining high and low tech disciplines, such as paper mache and the Adobe Design Suit.
