On 11/10/2020, Bear, our 8 month old maltese chipoo was injured in a hit and run by an SUV. Ricardo and his father ran to the emergency vet with him, where he was diagnosed with multiple trauma. The doctor stabilized Bear and ran initial exams and referred us to Oradell Animal Hospital for a higher level of care. Currently he has a pelvic fracture, a tib fib fracture, and a metatarsal fracture . He has lung contusions and a slightly collapsed lung and a liver laceration. They’ve also found injuries to his spine with changes at the vertebral bodies at level L6-L7. Despite the severity of his injuries, the vet says he should have a good prognosis because he is still a baby and in good health prior his injuries. Our entire family is devastated and will do our best to provide Bear with a fighting chance. He will spend at least the next four days in the ICU on oxygen and pain medicine. They will splint his fractures and monitor him closely. We hope you find it in your hearts to donate and offset some of the financial burden of Bear’s care.
