Bea's Big Adventure

This is BEA! Our beautiful daughter who is the love of our life! Just days after Christmas this past year, we were given the devastating news that Bea only had 18 months left to live (She is 6 and under normal circumstances would live until she is 15-20 yo). During an echocardiogram, it was discovered that Bea had developed Left-Sided Congestive Heart Failure due to Mitral Valve disease. It was first presented that the only option available was to treat Bea with medications to help mitigate her symptoms. Devastated and heartbroken, my wife and I refused to believe that there was no alternative option out in the world. After doing a significant amount of research, we found our answer! Dr. Masami Uechi of Japan has dedicated his life’s work to helping small breed dogs with Congestive Heart Failure due to Mitral Valve disease. He not only pioneered the surgery, but also helped to create a cardio-pulmonary bypass machine for these amazing animals. With over 700 surgeries and a 92% success rate, Dr. Uechi has traveled to the UK, France, Signapore, and the US (he and his team will be here this Spring to teach University of Florida cardiologists his technique) to teach other veterinary cardiologists his technique and surgical skills. After much care and thought, my wife and I made the decision, that traveling to Japan for our daughter is the best course of action.

 

I cannot begin to express how much we love our daughter and what she means to us. She is truly the glue to our family of three and is one of the most intelligent, beautiful, and amazing beings we have ever known. We would love your support in helping us save our daughter’s life.
