Getting back on my feet, housing fund

Donation protected
Nearly seven years ago I survived my first cardiac arrest. It turned out that there is scar tissue on my heart which has been the cause of several arrests since then. Surviving these and living with the treatment had an immensely destructive effect on my mental health as well and my life declined over the following few years which eventually saw me too anxious to leave my bedroom. I narrowly avoided homelessness and ended up living in supported accommodation.

I’ve spent the last few years seeking treatment and working to fix my mental health. I attended therapy, practiced yoga and began to learn and practice mindfulness. Doing this allowed me to slowly reach out again and piece my life back together.

Last year I was fortunate enough to take part in a training academy designed to help get people back into work. They trained me in specialty coffee and gave me the skills to work as a barista in hospitality. It took another 6 months but I’ve finally found myself back in full time work.

Unfortunately this means that I can no longer get support from the government to stay in my supported accommodation, and it’s also time for me to move on and make room for those that need the help. Everything has happened very suddenly and I now have a short amount of time to raise money for a deposit (£800) and rent (£500) so that I can move. I have until the 17th June 2019 to move out.

I’ve found an amazing opportunity to live cheaply as a property guardian and be part of a community of creative and supportive guardians. I’ll be able to have a life while earning a low income. And will also be closer to my friends which will help me continue to improve my quality of life.

I’m somewhat embarrassed to ask everyone for their support. I promise to use the generous gifts of anyone to put myself back in a position where I can help others. I’ve always been a socialist who wanted everyone to have a more equal set of living conditions but having lived in ill health and on the benefits system has given me a new and more personal perspective on inequality. It is and always will be my goal to help others with what I have to give.

Thank you.
