On Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at around 12:00 pm, off-duty Port St. Lucie Police Officer George “Lee” Rehm suffered a heart attack. Officer Rehm was initially taken to Tradition Medical Center and then was transferred to Martin Medical Center in Stuart, Fla. On Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at around 6:00 am, Officer Lee Rehm succumbed to heart complications at the hospital.
Officer Lee Rehm was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1974. After graduating high school in Virginia Beach, Lee moved to south Florida. Lee began his law enforcement career in 1998 as a correctional officer for Martin Correctional Institute. In 2000 Lee was hired by the Mangonia Park Police Department where he worked until being hired by the Port St. Lucie Police Department in 2001. In 2010, Officer Rehm had a brief break in service when he relocated to Jacksonville, Florida. Lee came back to Port St. Lucie and was immediately welcomed back by the Port St. Lucie Police Department in 2012.
Lee was a loving husband to wife Amanda and a dedicated and loving father to 13-year-old daughter Gabrielle and 2-year-old son Larson.
Officer Rehm was a decorated officer and has received numerous awards. Lee served the agency in numerous capacities including: Neighborhood Policing Bureau Road Patrol Officer, Criminal Investigations Division Juvenile Detective, Special Investigations Division Gang Unit Investigator, Field Training Officer, Directed Area Response Team (D.A.R.T.) member, and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) negotiator.
Officer Rehm touched the lives of many as a carasmatic, loving soul who worked hard for his community and his family. In this difficult time, his family needs as much help and support as possible. Lee was not vested in his police pension and his family will receive hardly any money. As he can no longer provide for his children and wife we are asking for donations to help support his family and take care of them as if they were our own.
