Team Johnston

Last March, Tom Johnston was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive bladder cancer. Since then, he has undergone grueling months of tests, biopsies, scans, and surgeries with his wife, Dawn, by his side every single step of the way. He received  aggressive chemotherapy and immunotherapy but the immunotherapy appears to have stopped working in September. He is now enrolled in a clinical trial at NIH.

Tom has more than 18 years of Federal service working at NIST, is a US Navy veteran, and is the sole provider for his wife and 3 young daughters; his wife is the primary caregiver. 

If you know Tom and Dawn Johnston, you know that they give of their time and their knowledge and their love freely. Dawn has dedicated many, many hours over the years to the St. John's family volunteering at the book fair and where ever help is needed. Tom readily helps friends in the community, including speaking to students at Walkersville High about careers in STEM. Tom and Dawn and the girls are the first ones to offer help to others, without being asked. They give generously and love much but now they need their team behind them. Please join us in showing them that they are loved and that they are not alone. 

Bladder cancer is one of the most expensive cancers to treat. All donations will go directly to this special and much loved family to help defray medical and living expenses.
