Camino Walk for St. Mary's School

Donation protected

In a less than desirable section of Miami, there is an oasis of safety, caring and hope for pre-kindergarten through 8th grade students – it’s called St. Mary’s Cathedral School.  From the moment I met the principal, some of her staff and visited several classrooms, I knew I had found my new volunteer home.  Since October, twice a week, I have been taking small groups of children out of their classrooms and trying my best to help them with their reading skills. (And the most exciting thing is that it’s working!)

These kids come from Miami’s underprivileged Haitian American, Hispanic and African American communities.  As you can imagine, the vast majority of the students are on need-based scholarships. The school’s needs are enormous (text and library books, uniforms, sports equipment, tech equipment…just for starters).  Toward that end, I am asking for your help.

This September four amigas and I are going for a walk….across northwestern Spain! Actually we are doing the Camino to Santiago de Compostela.  We’ll be walking for 10 days, and I’ve decided to dedicate my efforts toward fundraising for St. Mary’s.  These children deserve a chance.  I can assure you that every dollar raised goes to the school and will be accounted for.  Nothing goes to waste in this community!

With much appreciation and gratitude for your help.  I'll be thinking of you every step of the way (blisters and all!).
