Barney's emergency vet bills after eating her bed

**Update from Rebecca - 7 July 2019**
Hello everyone
Barney had her specialist appointment and the following was advised.
- Barney was admitted overnight last Thursday for ongoing support and management due to her slower response to the surgery. X-rays were performed which did not show breakdown of the intestinal surgery.
- In regards to bilateral dislocated hips when the hips were manipulated the apparent lack of pain gave concern for nerve damage around the hips or the spine.
- Even with dislocated hips there should be muscle tone and motor control in her hind legs which was pointing to a neurological problem, which explains why her legs are so limp.
- Even with this complex surgery, Barney would still have neurological abnormalities and not be able to walk.
- Furthermore, the lack of muscle tone and ability to move her back legs means there are no active stabilizers increasing risk of failure for the hip-toggle implant.
- Unfortunately for these reasons, the doctors were reluctant to do the surgery.
Now to the very sad part, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanise Barney and we are all totally heartbroken and devastated.
We really want to reach out to everybody who has followed our journey with your donations and kind words, we are forever grateful and humbled, and we are so sorry our darling Barney couldn't be saved.
We are very concerned how this happened to both legs post surgery and all the vet doctors we spoke to were baffled as the abdominal surgery has nothing to do with the rear hind legs.
Any donations from now on will help to contribute to clear the vet costs, euthanasia and cremation costs, we very much appreciate this amazing help.
So once again, many many thanks to everybody and now we are going through the painful journey of grieving for our darling Barney.

I am the mother of Wendy May, my only child who blessed me with a beautiful family of four grandchildren and six great grand ones. I want to thank each and every heart who shone into our lives. With the blessings of the heart, I thank you all soul deep.
My Wendy had a great affinity to all the animal kingdom, but when I lost my other two dogs faithful to the end over three years ago and went without a dog for the first time in my life, my amazing daughter searched for 3 weeks and found me Holly 8 years old. One week later our three-legged Abbie and in May this year my Holly had a bleed out of the spleen and no matter how hard we tried we couldn't save her. Now her little mate Abbie is pining bad and a sea of tears since.
So in a year our Wendy first then Walley, then Holly and now Barney. All a big part of my daughter and family’s life, and though our hearts are broken into pieces, I know from deep within - God is in every piece as he’s in all your hearts who gave donations and loving words. And in my eyes became a big miracle for our Barney. When things are not good, God is moving in many hearts, soothing other hearts.
**Update from Rebecca 3 July 2019**
After Barney’s operation, we noticed she couldn’t walk, stand, or move her rear legs. Following the xray, Barney was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia and now requires a total hip replacement. Both joints are totally dislocated. They tried to pop them back in but they just popped out again and also there is no ligament behind the joints, and the legs are essentially just hanging there. We are going to see a specialist tomorrow urgently in regards to this. This particular operation is going to cost up to $15,000, which is over and above what has already been raised. Sadly, without these funds, the only other option is euthanasia.
Apart from this, the initial operation for the blocked intestines is going well so far which is some good news. Barney is also on several medications for the operation and severe pain.
We’re very humble for the donations received so far. This diagnosis is devastating news for Barney and our family. She means so much to all of us, especially to my dad after the loss of mum last year and Wally. Dad really needs her companionship.

We’re absolutely overwhelmed with the generosity of contributions and support from the community for Barney’s emergency operation. From your kind generosity, we were able to pay for her operation and specialist consultation. Her current condition has her in a 24-hour emergency VET to receive intravenous fluids, diagnostic testing and an x-ray due to her not being able to move her rear legs, stand up or walk. They are unsure why she can't move after the operation, so we’ll hear back tomorrow.
We just want to thank everyone so much, this means the world to us.

Help for Barney’s emergency vet bills after eating her bed.
Barney our 6 yr old golden retriever is my recent past mum’s dog and is in a critical condition after eating her bed. It’s left Barney with an impacted bowel. She’s just out of an emergency operation and in need of 24/7 special care. She's still at a huge risk of losing her life, and has to be moved every 30 minutes to try keep her rear legs mobile. Barney's current condition is limited motion and movement of rear legs. Loss of balance. VET is unsure of why this has happened and has referred Barney to a specialist as they're unsure to why this has happened post surgery.
Barney's story and what she means to us
Barney was my mum's dog. My mum (Wendy) died last year from an aggressive and very rare form of cancer, and Barney spent every night sitting by my mum’s bed in her last few weeks at home. When mum died, Barney pined for her for a long time. Then not long after my mum died, Barney’s companion dog Wally died. So my dad (George) has had to see my mum and Wally pass, and now possibly Barney all within a year. Barney means so much to my dad who recently lost his life partner. My dad has had Barney as company after losing both mum and Wally and it would be devastating for him to lose Barney right now.
If my mum was here she’d also be doing anything to save Barney’s life. She loved animals so much that she’d carry pet food in the car to help the homeless animals and try to rehome them.
Expenses of emergency operation and care
My dad and our family aren’t in a position to cover the immediate costs and ongoing expenses of the operation, hospital stay and specialist appointments, currently at $7500 and rising. I’m trying to get together any help I can to cover this. No amount is too small. I'm happy to share any documentation to support this.
