Barbi's Fight Against Breast Cancer

On June 6th, 2018 we learned that my mom, Barbi, has stage three invasive ductal carcinoma (breast cancer) and will require a double mastectomy, radiation, and chemotherapy. She has already shown an unbelievable amount of optimism and strength with the love and support of many over the last few days. Thank you all for your uplifting words during this time❤️ They’re helping her through this process immensely!
Being the empathetic and kind-hearted person she is, her main concern has been for her children, close friends, and family. We are all more than ready to be strong emotional support for her, but there is one other major stress factor at play: the financial toll this will take on my family.
Even with insurance, cancer is expensive as hell! In the last few days alone doctors appointments have cost over $200 in deductibles and copays. This is just the very beginning folks. This upcoming week she has appointments with the regular oncologist, radiation oncologist, and surgeon in addition to several labs, a PET SCAN, EKG, and a chest X-ray. We have many weeks ahead of us like this and the last thing she needs is to be stressed about money..Stress feeds cancer! We absolutely need her to be 100% focused on healing.
She will be missing several months of work through surgery, the recovery period, then through chemotherapy and radiation. Even now with the overwhelming amount of doctors appointments, she is having to sacrifice her work to take care of everything ASAP.
My mom has spent so much of her life focused on giving. She has shown unconditional love and support to her children, family, friends, and strangers even in times of personal struggle. She has made sacrifice through her own stressful situations for the well-being of others time and time again. I know we can all pull together to make this difficult journey as comfortable as possible for her. ❤️
Your contribution will help pay for the countless deductibles we will be facing for X-rays, surgical procedures, and ongoing treatment like chemotherapy and radiation. It will pay for healthy, wholesome foods to nourish her body through this process as well as anti anxiety and sleep aids. It will help compensate for missed time at work. It will enable her children to be near her to help out as much as possible (I live two hours away, and my sister lives all the way in Kalamazoo, Michigan).
Anything you can spare, even if it’s just sacrificing a coffee today, could make the world of a difference for my mom and our family during this time!
