Assalaammualaikum my friends and family,
My family and I moved to Kanata in 2013. When we got here, I was delighted to find such a strong Muslim community that is active. There's always big turnout in the congregation of the 5 daily prayers, the Friday prayers, or in the gathering together in breaking our fast in Ramadan. What impressed me more is in how well integrated this Muslim community is to their fellow neighbours. We often help out in local events, have park cleanings, and have very good relationship with the neighbouring churches as there were many open door and interfaith events.
However, I couldn't help but notice that till this day, we've been renting out for our 7th Friday Prayer location after the community had outgrown 6 other previous ones. Our activites are currently happening at 5 different rental locations whether it be rental community centers now or even rental churches in the past. At this point, it should not continue like this any longer. Alhamdulillah we've built such a strong tight Muslim community, and now I believe it's time we have a permanent home.
The search for a property for a mosque had been going on unsuccessfully for many years, but alhamdulillah in November 2016, the community was finally able to purchase a beautiful and ideally-located property that is close to many Muslim families and Muslim tech workers. However now, we need to transform this property into a well-designed place that not only houses our congregational prayers, but also to accomodate other programs that this community desperately needs such as learning & teaching Qur'an, da'wah center, feeding and helping those in need, counselling, caring for seniors, children and youth education and many more. You can learn more about our community, our project, and mission at www.kanatamuslims.ca.
MashaAllah our community has been generous but we are not able to do this alone. That is why I'm asking if you can help contribute to my campaign. Every dollar you give will go directly to building this Masjid, whether it be the floorings, the walls, the carpet, or even the parking lot itself. None of it will go towards any such administrator fee as everyone in this team are non paid volunteers.
One of the companions, Uthman ibn Affan, reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, said:
“Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, then Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise.” (Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 439, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 533)
Whatever you can help, insha Allah, will benefit the entire Muslim community not only presently but for many generations to come.
Please note that all donations are tax deductible for Canadian residents.
Jazak Allah khair.
