Hello everyone! I sure never thought I would be writing something like this for myself! I am 41 years old, a wife, and mom to a beautiful 6 year old daughter. My life forever changed on December 8th, 2020 when I was told those dreaded words, "You have cancer." I was currently taking care of my mom who had just had surgery for breast cancer herself. I have triple negative Invasive Ductal Carcinoma that is stage 2, grade 3. The grade 3 means it is very aggressive. I have two small tumors and cancer cells in my lymph node under my arm.
Things have been a whirlwind since that first day with many trips back and forth to Columbia and many, many tests and procedures. Despite this diagnosis, I have had good news along the way, and give God all the glory! I had a PET scan to see if the cancer had spread any further than the one lymph node and thankfully, it has not! I also had genetic testing done, and again, thankfully, I am negative for all of the genetic mutations for cancer.
I have a few more tests coming this week, and I will have surgery to put in a portacath next week. Two days after that, I will start my first round of chemo. I will have chemo treatments for 5 months, and then, I will have surgery followed by radiation.
I thankfully have a great job as a school librarian and have insurance, but the out-of-pocket expenses are still very high. For example, I will have to pay over $800 for the port procedure. The travel expenses are quickly adding up as well. I have a total of 6 appointments in the coming week and all of them require over an hour drive.
I have faith that God will lead me through this battle, but I know I am in for a big fight and a big financial burden. So many of you have reached out to offer your love and prayers, which are the most important things, but I know many of you want to help in more ways.
