Help Save my Grandmother's Home!

Donation protected
Hi my name is Joey, and I am the son and only child of Rebecca Chisenhall.  I am starting this fund to try and help save my late grandmother's home from going into tax foreclosure.  This home has stayed in the family to give my mother, Rebecca, a place to live.  This money will be used to pay off the back taxes to keep it from going to Auction on April 5, 2016.

The funds are needed as soon as possible to keep the county from taking it to tax sale.  Anything you can afford will be helpful and extremely appreciated.

The home was passed down to my mother for her to live in once my grandmother passed in 2011.
Unfortunately, my mother has always struggled with mental illness including severe clinical depression.  She has dealt with this as long as I have been alive, and has always made it very difficult for her to make ends meet.  She received disability for many years while I was growing up and has suffered many bouts of depression related to her mental illness.  In an effort to return to the workforce, she got a certification as a medical transcriptionist 12 years or so ago.  Over the years her job and her profession have become less and less lucrative, to the point where over the last few years she has made well under the poverty level.  It has become extremely difficult for her to pay her bills and provide food for herself and her animals (that she loves so dearly), let alone pay the tax bills.

It took a lot of reflection and prayer to bring myself to write this page.  I don't want it to seem like we want other people to bail us out or that I won't pay my mom's taxes.  If I would I could, and would not be writing this.  I have helped her over the years with whatever I can, and am happy to do so.  My wife is due to have our first child in 2 weeks, and is on unpaid maternity leave since she is self employed.

For those who really know my mother well, she has one of the biggest hearts you will ever find, and so many times I've witnessed her give to others when she had nothing.  Many times growing up, I would think how foolish she was to give a homeless person $10 when she only had $15 in her bank account. She would tell me " they need it more than we do right now".  As an adult, I admire that the most about her, and I believe this is what empowers me to ask others to give selflessly as well.

A little background on my grandmother, Freddie Rhoden.  She was an absolute saint, and probably the reason I am still here today!  I owe a great deal of who I am to this wonderful woman.  I cannot imagine losing her home over a few thousand dollars in taxes.

The home was completely paid off by my grandmother in the early 90s.  She was always very good with her money, and not interested in the material things in life.  She was very generous and compassionate to her family and those she cared about.  She provided a roof over our head until I went away for college ( this very same roof I am trying to save).  I grew up in this home and have so many fond memories there from the day my grandmother bought it....  from all the backyard baseball games, the wonderful aroma of my grandmother's delicious homemade french toast she made everytime my cousins spent the night, to one of my best friends moving in with us for several years in high school because he lost his parents and had no place to go.  It would devastate my family and I to lose her home that she filled with so much love for so many years.  I know it would devastate her to know that her daughter was without a place to live.

Thank you so much for reading our story, and I cannot tell you how much my mom and I appreciate your generosity and compassion.  Any amount you can afford will be graciously accepted and be such a blessing!  We will find some way to thank you guys.
