Help Milo Walk Again

Donation protected

Milo is our family’s 7 year old rescue beagle/hound mix, and is the happiest, sweeeeetest, most cuddly, silly boy you’ll ever meet.  Who knew that his favorite thing to do could possibly end his life?  Late afternoon on September 6th, while chasing a bunny, our beloved Milo, gave out a heart-wrenching yelp and couldn’t bend his right hind leg or paw. Crying, panting, and running in panic, we knew something bad had happened but with it being Labor Day weekend, we weren't able to get him into his 4 legged  doctor until first thing in the morning on the 8th . By the end of the afternoon, they called us to say that Milo was paralyzed in both hind legs at this point, and if we hoped to save him, we needed to take him to a neurologist/surgeon right away. We were heartbroken, he is a very special member of our family, and were praying the surgeons could save him. They kept him overnight for exam and tests, and it was the hardest thing to drive away not knowing what tomorrow's news would bring.

The next morning, the neurologist said that saving Milo would require an MRI then surgery, with a painful and lengthy recovery. They suspected a ruptured disc, or more. The surgery would be costly, the physical therapy and recovery would add up.  They told us to consider this…Was saving Milo worth the high financial cost which could run high? Any family with a pet knows how difficult this decision is to make. Do we put Milo through an MRI and surgery with a long and painful recovery, depending on the MRI results... or bring him home, allow our kids to come home from their colleges to say their loving goodbyes to our sweet boy???

Having 3 kids in college, Financially we could not afford the surgery, $8101.07 was the cost.  But Milo is a huge heart of our family, our college kids had instantly agreed to come home to help care for him, AND the surgical center provided an option for a loan, so we took it.  By afternoon, Milo was in recovery from emergency back surgery; two ruptured discs in his back.  He spent 1 night in ICU, moved to post-op the next, and we brought him home late Friday afternoon!

This picture is from the afternoon we picked Milo up. Note the expression on mom’s face: Milo was Saved!

Now that Milo has made it through surgery, we are doing all we can but we need your help. Our family would be forever grateful to anyone who is able to donate to help keep our special boy happy and healthy.

He needs extensive physical therapy 2 times a week and we have been quoted $295 for the first 90 minute evaluation with therapy, and up to $195 per session after. (8-12 weeks, possibly more) to hopefully regain mobility in both of his hind legs as he is still paralyzed.  All of your generous donations will go towards the PT costs that he needs as this will go over $3,000. Any donation or sharing of Milo’s campaign would be so deeply appreciated!
